Blocks practice mode

Blocks is an individual, game-shaped practice option available from the practice menu beside Start for eligible lessons. It uses the same learner response assessment, history logging, and adaptive-model updates as ordinary practice.

In the compact table, the Blocks action uses a grid icon with a Blocks label/tooltip. It can appear beside Start or Continue when the lesson is eligible.

Eligibility

Blocks appears only for available, incomplete, direct-practice TDF packages made entirely of conventional learning-session card units (instruction-only units may appear between them). It is not available for condition pools, multi-TDF lessons, SPARC, video, AutoTutor, assessment units, repair-required content, or completed lessons.

How a run works

The learner places three fixed-orientation pieces on a 10 by 10 board. Full rows and columns clear and score points. After all three pieces are placed, the board locks and MoFaCTS shows the next ordinary practice question.

Drag a piece from the tray to an open position on the board. The preview follows the picked-up cell; an invalid placement returns the piece to its tray. Placement and row/column clearing use visual transitions that respect reduced-motion preferences.

On mobile, the board occupies the question area while pieces are available. Emptying the tray slides the board down to reveal the question; after a correct answer, the refreshed board slides back into place. This motion is suppressed when the learner requests reduced motion.

  • A correct answer writes normal learning evidence and awards a fresh tray of three pieces.
  • An incorrect answer writes normal learning evidence but awards no pieces; the board remains locked until a later question is answered correctly.
  • A run ends when none of the remaining pieces fits, or when the ordinary lesson sequence is complete.

The board and score are intentionally in-memory only. Reloading keeps the learner in the same lesson and Blocks mode but starts a new board. Leaving or starting another Blocks run also starts a new board, while already submitted learning evidence remains in the learner's history.
